STEAD, Nev. – Like two heavyweight boxers going toe-to-toe for 15 rounds, Staff. Sgt. Joshua Rodriguez and Sgt. Colton Hults went back-and-forth in the first eight events contested in the Nevada Army Guard’s 2016 Best Warrior Competition here April 22-24. Hults, 26, of Reno, finally pulled away from Rodriguez, 34, of North Las Vegas, in the marksmanship events on the final day of competition to claim the title of Noncommisioned Officer of the Year and earn a trip to the Region VII Best Warrior Competition in Arizona in May.

NUKU’ALOFA, Tonga – The Kingdom of Tonga proved once again this week why it is known as the “Friendly Islands” after hosting another State Partnership Program exchange with members of the Nevada National Guard. Three members of the Nevada Guard just spent a week here sharing weapons tactics, techniques and procedures with members of His Majesty’s Armed Forces – the official name for the Tongan military. Topics ranged from basic weapons maintenance and individual marksmanship techniques to night-vision goggle familiarization.

LAS VEGAS (April 15, 2016) – Nevada Adjutant General Brig. Gen. Bill Burks admitted he had a strong sensation that he’d already recently experienced a similar situation as he bid farewell April 15 to the 140 Soldiers deploying to Kuwait with Bravo Company, 422nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion. “Borrowing from Yogi Berra, it’s déjà vu all over again,” said Burks as he participated in his second deployment ceremony featuring 422nd Soldiers within months. Just more than two months ago, Burks was present to see 40 422nd Soldiers depart for their deployment to Africa.
