CARSON CITY -- A venerable Nevadan nearly as old and recognizable as the U.S. Flag and Army was the master of ceremonies here at the state Capitol on June 12 when the Nevada National Guard hosted its 17th annual Flag Day and Army Birthday celebration. The Ghost of Mark Twain, portrayed by Incline Village resident McAvoy Layne, was the emcee of the event that also featured Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt as the keynote speaker. Twain was born in 1835, just a few decades after the establishment of the U.S. Army in 1775 and the U.S. Flag in 1777.
