Governor administers oath of reenlistment for IHOP shooting survivor Mock

CARSON CITY—Sgt. 1st Class Jeremiah Mock, a survivor of the Sept. 6, 2011, IHOP shooting in Carson City, reenlisted today in the Nevada Army National Guard at the Nevada Capitol in Carson City. Governor Brian Sandoval gave the oath of reenlistment.

Tuskegee Airmen tell of struggle, triumph in Reno

RENO—About 500 people overflowed the auditorium of the Nevada Air National Guard Base Friday to hear the courageous stories of three original Tuskegee Airmen.
“It’s emotionally filling to see so many come out and want to hear the history of these amazing men,” retired Senior Master Sgt. Walter Suggs, said.
The Tuskegee Airmen, formed in the World War II era, were the first African-American military aviators in the United States. They are known for breaking ground in their field and are comprised of hundreds of proud members.

RENO – The Nevada National Guard currently has about 50 Soldiers and Airmen working the areas of the Washoe Drive Fire south of Reno.

 

The Guard members are primarily working an 11-mile corridor of the affected areas as a security presence helping augment local first responders. They are ensuring no unauthorized personnel enter the areas and will continue to maintain general safety in the area.

CARSON CITY – The 422nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion concluded its successful year-long deployment in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom Sunday. The largest signal corps deployment in Nevada Guard history ended with a demobilization ceremony at the Mandalay Bay Resort for the southern Soldiers and the Nevada Air National Guard Base in Reno for the northern Soldiers on Jan. 15.

Public invited to Guard groundbreaking ceremony Jan. 18

     The public is welcome to join Nevada National Guard officials for the groundbreaking ceremony of the North Las Vegas Readiness Center on January 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the Floyd Edsall Readiness Center, 6400 Range Road, Las Vegas. The new readiness center will be built on a 78-acre site near the Edsall Center.

Snyder, Williams assume new Nevada Air Guard command roles

RENO – Along with the new year comes new commanders for the 152nd Airlift Wing and the Nevada Air Guard. Col. David Snyder, the outgoing commander of the 152nd Airlift Wing, was promoted to the rank of brigadier general within the state of Nevada yesterday and took the reins of the entire Nevada Air Guard from Brig. Gen. Robert Fitch, who is retiring.

With Snyder’s new role, temporary command of the 152nd Airlift Wing went to the unit’s vice wing commander, Col. Michael Williams.

LAS VEGAS — Sgt. Dale Peterman didn’t pop champagne this New Year’s Eve. He didn’t kiss his wife at midnight or watch “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” Peterman was a few blocks from Las Vegas Boulevard working in association with local law enforcement for Vigilant Sentinel, the Nevada Guard’s highest-profiled annual exercise.
